Yes, almost any legal entity can invest in the stock market. The labor union has assets that can be invested in the stock market.

Yes. Firstly, we do have Sovereign wealth funds like in Norway and where the Norwegian government has drawn a list of ethical companies to invest in. It invests not only in stock markets but in real estate as well as bonds.

Like Gore, the union bosses say that personal retirement accounts will undermine Social Security and put workers’ retirement “at risk” to the uncertainties of the stock market. If the stock market is so risky, then why does virtually every union pension fund in America invest the bulk of their assets in the “risky” stock market? Gone are the days when America’s major union pension funds invested most of their money in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

In competitive markets, unions cannot cartelize labor and raise wages. Companies with higher labor costs go out of business. Consequently, unions do not raise wages in many newly organized companies.
