You can see the order flow by the forex futures which are traded on the stock exchange. This is the normal future market but not the spot market. Sometimes there are different price movements between these two markets but generally, the spot market is dependent on the future market.

As it always had been, order flow is the mechanism that moves prices up and down. It is the balance or imbalance of buyers and sellers (bids and asks). It’s the onslaught of market sell orders that overwhelm the buy limit orders, or the market buys that overpower the limit order sellers. Let’s take a step back.

The market order is considered more ‘aggressive’ than the limit order. The limit order is an order at a price and you will only trade at this price, the market order is accepting a slightly worse price to enter the market. In the above picture, we can see that there are 17 contracts ad 1165.25.

You can choose to trade purely based on Market Profile or purely based on Order-flow. The Order-flow or Footprint charts look like this - they need tick data i.e. In NinjaTrader there is an option called “Tick Replay” which need to be enabled to get these charts working. Screen Capture from Fin-Alg
